BTEC Level 2 from EDEXCEL
Course Description

This course is suited for new entrants to the security industry and those who are returning to it having previously worked prior to the introduction of SIA licensing in 2004. Everyone will need to undertake the SIA training to be able to apply for the SIA licence.
This course enables you to work as a Vehicle Immobiliser (wheel clamping) ONLY.
You may work on Private land with the land owners consent.

Course Aim

To work as a SIA Vehicle Immobiliser (wheel clamping) in the UK you will need to have an SIA licence issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA).

One of the requirements of the SIA licence is that you hold a recognized qualification, and the BTEC Level 2 Vehicle Immobiliser QCF (wheel clamping) from EDXCEL meets the requirement for the SIA Licence.

NOTE: If you work as a vehicle immobiliser (wheel clamping) without an SIA licence you are liable up to a fine of £5000 and/or up to 6 months in prison. For more information on SIA licensing or the SIA Vehicle Immobiliser course please call us for details.

Course Objective

The recognised SIA qualification consists of three units:
Part one
Level 2, Unit 1, Working in the Private Security Industry
1.     
Know the purpose and main features of the private security Industry
2.     
Understand the legislation that is relevant to people working within the private security industry
3.     
Know how to maintain health and safety in the work place
4.     
Know how to apply the principals of fire safety
5.     
Know how to deal with non-fire-related work place emergencies
6.     
Understand the principals of effective communication and customer care in the private security Industry

Part Two
Level 2, Unit 2(b), Working as a Vehicle Immobiliser
1.     
Know the Law and standards relating to vehicle immobilisation and removal
2.     
Understand signage and information relating to vehicle immobilisation and removal
3.     
Know how to immobilise,  remove and relocate vehicles
4.     
Know when to immobilise, remove and relocate vehicles
5.     
Understand the uses of technology and record keeping in vehicle immobilisation and removal
6.     
Understand payments and appeals in vehicle immobilisation and removal

Part three
Level 2, Unit 3(b), Conflict Management
1.     
Understand the communication skills and knowledge of conflict management appropriate to their role
2.     
Understand how to recognise, assess and reduce risk in conflict situations
3.     
Understand how to communicate effectively in emotive situations and de-escalate conflict
4.     
Understand how to develop and use problem solving strategies for resolving conflict
5.     
Understand good practice to follow after conflict situations

Course Assessments

3 hours of exams. The exams consist of three multiple-choice papers.

You will have to satisfy ID requirements for the course and the SIA

From 1 October, the SIA will only accept:
 2 identity documents from group A list.

 
At least one document must show the applicant's current address and at least one document must show the applicant's date of birth.
Or 
 1 identity document from group A list and 2 documents from group B list.

 Marriage certificate or Civil Partnership certificate, with translation if not in English.

 Certified copy (not a photocopy) of a UK birth certificate issued more than 12 months after date of birth.

 Non-UK birth certificate, with translation if not in English.

 P45 statement of income for tax purposes on leaving a job issued in the last 12 months.

 P60 annual statement of income for tax purposes issued in the last 12 months.

 Bank or building society statement issued to your current address, less than three months old.

 Mortgage statement issued in the last 12 months.

 Gas, electric, telephone, water, satellite, cable, mobile phone contract or utility bill issued to your current address within the last three months. You can only send us one utility bill.

 TV licence in your name and current address issued in last 12 months.

 Pension, endowment or ISA statement issued in last 12 months.

 Certificate of British nationality.

 British work permit or visa issued in last 12 months.

 Letter from H.M. Revenue & Customs, Department of Work and Pensions, employment service, or local authority. You can use more than one letter as long as each is issued by different Government department or different local authorities. A local authority is someone you pay council tax to.

 A credit card statement sent to your current address within the last three months. You can use more than one statement as long as each is issued by a different service provider.

 Court summons issued in last 12 months.

 Child benefit book issued in last 12 months.

 A payslip, with your address and the employer's name or logo, that is less than three months old.
           
All documents from group A and group B must be originals and in your current name unless accompanied by a deed poll document that confirms a change of name, or a valid adoption certificate

There are no specific requirements to attend for the SIA door supervisors course, however a good level of written and spoken English would be preferred

Anyone wishing to apply for their SIA licence and work as a SIA Vehicle Immobiliser (wheel clamper) anywhere in the UK

Course Benefits

The SIA recognised Level 2 Vehicle Immobiliser (wheel clamping) will enable you to apply to the SIA for a vehicle immobiliser (wheel clamping) licence, and by obtaining this SIA licence you will increase your employment opportunities

You can work as a Vehicle Immobiliser (wheel clamper) on private land ONLY

Although the course syllabus will provide you with the basic knowledge needed to pass the exams, our instructors will also demonstrate to you the real life practicalities of being a SIA
Vehicle immobiliser (wheel clamper), so that when you eventually start work you will feel much more confident in your new role

Additional Information

After the Vehicle immobilisation (wheel clamping) course you will have to apply for your licence from the SIA (Security Industry Authority)

The licence application fee is £245 for a one year licence. The fee is to cover the cost of processing your application and is not refundable.

If you pay your own licence fee you will be able to claim tax relief against your taxable income. For example, if you pay the basic rate of tax the relief is worth £53.90. If you are an employer paying the licence fee on behalf of an employee there will be no tax or National Insurance liability.

Some security operatives may need more than one licence; in such cases the second licence will be discounted by 50%. However this does not apply to the SIA vehicle immobilisation (wheel clamping) licence.
