What is the SIA? The SIA is the Security Industry Authority it is a government body regulating the security industry.
How many SIA door supervisors have you trained? At the last count over 1000 in the last 4 years.
What is your pass rate? 99.9%
Can I work once I have done the training? Yes, but only for companies that have achieved ACS (Approved contractors scheme) approval from the SIA.
How much does it cost? The training costs £150 and the licence costs £245 Valid for three years.
Do I have to do any refresher training when I want to renew my licence? Yes, you will have to attend a one day Physical intervention training for renewals. Do I have to do the full course if I already have a security licence? Yes, although you already have you security licence the SIA require you to do the full 4 days for door supervision, but your second licence will only cost £122.50
Will i get a certificate? Yes, on successful completion of the course passing both parts you will receive two certificate from EDEXCEL for BTEC level two in door supervision and conflict management.
How long will it take to get a licence? This will depend on the individual application but the SIA have improved greatly recently, the quickest we know of is 20 days but the average is 3-6 months. Is there much work for SIA door supervisors? Yes, there is a lot of work for SIA door supervisors or security officers ranging from £6 - £9 Per hour for security and £10 - £18 for SIA door supervisors. Please check you local press for adverts.
Where can I work once I have the licence? Once you have your SIA door supervisors licence you can in any licensed premises in England, Wales or Scotland. i.e Hotels, pubs, nightclubs, shops, music festivals, etc but also work in many security job roles such as office blocks, building site security, Mod sites, ports and docks and many more.
What is an sia badge? A nickname for the SIA licence Card
What is the difference between security and door supervision? The main difference between security and SIA door supervisors is SIA door supervisors work on licensed premises and have a hands on role where as security officers can't work on licensed premises and are there to Observe, Witness and Report.

What equipment will i need? For the training none, your favourite pen if you want. When working this will depend on where you work but we recommend getting a stab vest, ear piece and good comfortable boots/shoes(not steel toe cap).
I have dyslexia will i get help with the exam? Yes, help is at hand for anyone with learning difficulties.
Will there be an exam? Yes there are two multiple choice exams.
what is a SIA door supervisor? commonly know as a bouncer, doorman, door steward or doors staff. A SIA door supervisors is some one in the role of security on licensed premises.
whats the difference between a bouncer and a SIA door supervisor? Bouncers got they licence to work from local authorities, a SIA door supervisor gets they licence to work from the SIA. Bouncers got they name as they would bounce people out of clubs or pubs, SIA door supervisors do the same job but now we use reasonable and necessary force.
Can it jeopardize getting your sia badge if you work without it? Yes, it can if you work without an SIA licence you can face a £5,000 fine or 6 months in prison or both and you might not be able to get a licence in the future.
Can i do static security on SIA door supervisor licence? Yes you can, you can also do retail security too. Don't have anyone tell you other wise.
What is the role of a SIA door supervisor, security officer, vehicle immobiliser, CCTV operative and close protection operative? How long can a person be handcuffed for? When you do handcuff training we try to explain that handcuffing someone should be seen as a last resort and that you had no other option available and that the use of the cuffs was justified but once you have used the handcuffs then the police should be called immediatly and you can then detain the person until the police arrive however long that maybe.
Do I have to display my licence on my arm? No, best practice say that you should have your licence on display, but this is not always possible so as a minimum you should have your licence on you, or be in a position to give your licence number and provide Id if you do not have your licence with you. I.e. LDN, lost or undercover security.
How long does your level 2 SIA door supervisor come and sia badge once you passed your sia course? Certificate takes around 4 weeks, but the licence may vary from 9 days quickest we have heard to 3-4 months
Will you be doing the ptlls training and conflict management courses together and will there be a discount? Yes, we will be running the PTLLS, Delivery of Conflict management and the new delivery of Physical Intervention level's 3 for the total price of £1500 (price to be confirmed)
Do I need to get Physical Intervention training if I already have an SIA door supervisors licence? No, the new training is only for new licence applications and not for poeple who already have a licence and you might not even need it for when you renue your licence, however some companies are insisting that you have it to work for them but it is not the law to have it just there policy.
Do I need ptlls to be a QCF assessor? Yes and No, if one of your jobs is to teach as part of the QCF then Yes, but if you just assess then No. But might be best to get it to cover yourself with the new changes to A1 & D1 assessor qualifications.
What courses can i deliver with Ptlls qualification? Anything and everything up to and including your level of qualification and as long as you can show compentcy in your specialist field and maybe a awarding body, then you may teach lots of different subjects as long as someone requiries it.
Can i work as a door supervisor with my close protection licence? Yes, of course you can, you can also work security roles too but not CVIT, CCTV or VI you would need different qualifications and licences.
I'v lost my SIA licence can I still work? Yes, of course you can still work without the card licence, but you should be in a postion to be able to offer your licence number (which you can get of the SIA web site with your first name, surename and licence sector i.e. door supervisor) and some for of photo id i.e. passport, driving licence
Does it cost anything to get a new SIA licence if I have lost it? No, a replacement is free
What is the difference between an SIA door supervisor and an SIA security officer? Short answer Licensed Premises, It come down to where they work security officers work as static guarding or manned guarding on office blocks, buildings sites and store detectives in shops such as supermarkets and clothes shops but door supervisors work on licensed premises such as pubs, clubs, music festivals and any where that requirers a Licence from the local authority.
