Security

You can work as a SIA Security Officer on a SIA Door supervisors licence, look at it a bit like driving licences if you get an automatic licence then you can only drive automatics, if you get manual driving licence then you can drive both manual and automatic. The door supervisors licence is the manual licence and costs the same as the security officers licence both £245 valid for three years.

Please see SIA door supervisor training for SIA security training.

It is now compulsory in many sectors to have an SIA (security industry authority) licence to work in the security industry.

One of the main duties of the SIA is the compulsory licensing of individuals working in specific sectors of the private security industry. their remit currently covers England, Wales and Scotland.

Whether or not an individual requires a licence is determined by
the role that is performed and the activity that is undertaken. These are described fully in Section 3 and Schedule 2 of the Private Security Industry Act 2001 (as amended).
The activities defined as licensable by the Act are:

  • Manned guarding, which includes:
    • Cash and Valuables in Transit
    • Close Protection
    • Door Supervision
    • Public Space Surveillance (CCTV)
    • Security Guard
  • Immobilisation, restriction and removal of vehicles
  • Key Holding
  • The Private Security Industry Act 2001 (as amended) allows for SIA licensing of private investigation activities, security consultants and precognition agents. However, they do not currently license these activities.
If you would like to see how the licensing process is going please take a look at they’re licensing statistics below:

This is to give you an indication of how many people are getting licences so that you can choose the right training and sectors for you.

We believe that they are two sectors worth joining at the moment and they are Door supervision and Vehicle immobilisation. This is why we dedicate are training to these sectors. We will only train people in areas where we believe that you will make the most of the training, whether it’s a better job or better pay.

At the bottom of the page are some example job advertise locally.

We are an approved training firm for the SIA training for Security Officers, Door Supervisors and vehicle immobilisers with EDEXCEL and the BIIAB based in Gosport near Portsmouth and Southampton with SIA training taking place at Quay Lane Gosport.

The SIA approved courses are of two parts: Part 1 - Role and responsibilities of Door Supervisors, Security Officers or vehicle immobilisers, and the part 2 - Communication Skills and Conflict Management, culminating in two examinations to prove competency.
Then you can apply for SIA licence with your certificates. To clarify, you can either apply to join the SIA Security Guarding course or SIA Door Supervisors' course, both courses of which have Communication Skills and Conflict Management as a second part.

The aim of the SIA (Security Industry Authority) is to increase the skill and professionalism of those employed in the Security Industry and to enhance the public's trust of it. Therefore anyone carrying out duties as a Door Supervision, Security Guarding or vehicle immobilising must hold a valid SIA licence. You will need a SIA licence if you wish to work as a Security Officer, a door supervisor or a vehicle immobilisers. If are responsible for security, protection or screening the suitability of persons entering licence premises or dealing with conflict in pubs, clubs and other licence premises open to the public.

To get a SIA licence you must complete a 4-day SIA training course. At the end of the SIA licence training you will complete two multiple-choice exams for both parts of the SIA training course to achieve this SIA approved qualification. You do not need any previous experience or qualification to enrol for this SIA training course. You can book any of our SIA training courses and pay by
Cheque/Postal Order or cash or Credit/debit card or you can email us an address where we can send you a invoice (for companies only).

On completion of this SIA training exam, it takes approximately 2 weeks for your certificate to arrive and then you can apply for SIA licence to the Security Industry Authority (SIA)costing £245 per licence who will then process your SIA licence application form. In the first instance, they will send you SIA acknowledgement letter indicating that they have received your application form and return your supporting documents with this acknowledgement letter. You can then approach Security firms for work with this SIA acknowledgement letter. You can work with this letter while you await your SIA badge. But not all Security companies will accept SIA acknowledgement letter. The SIA runs an "approved contractors' scheme" and it is only the Security companies who are on this scheme that can consider you for work if you meet their criteria. But once you have received your SIA licence card from the SIA you can legally work anywhere in the Security Industry.

With your SIA licence you can also register with us for temporary, or permanent security work at many UK events or venues

Whether you are already working as a Security Officer or Door Supervisor but are yet to receive SIA training, or you are considering work as a Security Officer or Door Supervisor, you need to be SIA licence as a Door Supervisor or a Security Guard. It is now illegal to work as a Security Officer or Door Supervisor without SIA Security Licence. Please go to either the
Door Supervisor Training Courses or Security Guard Training Courses page if you have not received SIA training and need to book a SIA training course.

As approved trainers for the SIA licence training courses, we pride ourselves with professionalism and excellence. We are not just SIA training providers, we work with you and for you all the way through your SIA licence training to your working life as a SIA licence Security Officer or SIA licensed Door Supervisor. We are also partners with some Security firms to ensure you are placed for work on qualification with SIA licence or SIA Acknowledgement letter.
