Course Description
| The qualification Preparing to teach in the lifelong sector (PTLLS) is for those you wish to work in a teaching role. It’s the new qualification required for ‘All new staff in the Learning and Skills Sector whose main role is teaching, training or tutoring…’. It replaces many other courses available before such as train-the-trainer, City & Guilds 7302 Certificate and Diploma in Delivering Learning (Level 3), City & Guilds 7407 Certificate in Further Education Teacher (Level 4), City & Guilds 7318 Learning and Development awards (Level 3).

Course Aim
| The purpose of the Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS 7303) course is to provide an introduction for those who wish to train or teach. It is a mandatory requirement for those who teach or train anyone over the age of 14 and is funded by the Learning skills council (LSC) now replaced by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) or work in the community i.e. companies offering Adult short courses in any Industry/Sector. It is a qualification that will equip a wide range of trainers, facilitators and teachers to support learners.
It is also a mandatory requirement for those wishing to obtain QTLS (Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills) Status or ATLS (Associate Teacher Learning and Skills) Status , required by almost all awarding bodies such as EDEXCEL, EDI, BIIAB, City & Guilds and many more.
Unqualified or part-qualified teachers can be employed so long as they undertake to start or continue their teacher training and to complete within 5 years. As more people become fully qualified, it will however become increasingly difficult to get work without a full qualification.

Course Objective
| 1. Understand own role, responsibilities and boundaries of role in relation to teaching.
2. Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches in the specialist area.
3. Demonstrate session planning skills.
4. Understand how to deliver inclusive sessions which motivate students.
5. Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record keeping

Course Assessments
| The Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector course will be assessed through a portfolio and observations. It is Externally verified according to current practice applied to EDEXCEL’S BTEC specialised and short course’s.

Course Requirements
| Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector is accredited for learners aged 19 or over
And those wishing to teach young people and vulnerable adults may have to undergo a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check.
They is no entry requirements for the course however an initial assessment may be carried out for the assessment of needs for learners.

Although the course syllabus will provide you with the basic knowledge needed to pass the assessment, our instructors will also demonstrate to you the real life practicalities of being a teacher, trainer or instructor, so that when you eventually start work you will feel much more confident in your new role
